Spring 2022, The realty business was still deep in a buyer's market. Post-Covid depression, bank interests, and many new constructions all made the selling of an old Co-op Apt in Yorkville, Manhattan difficult. Our first broker to sell our Apt was a gentleman, who appeared diligent and experienced. However, only a few people came to see our Apt, and his team remained all quiet, even on weekends. We cancelled off the sale in a few months, with a bitter disappointment. This was the first taste of our long and difficult journey. We cancelled off the sale in a few months, with a bitter disappointment. This was the first taste of our long and difficult journey. Dana Sapir, who looked fresh and eager, appeared with a bright smile. She prepared her Bio and Compass booklet with prices & graphs, at her first introduction. And, with such a high Estimated selling price! As if she was ignoring, so boldly, all those current, depressive, and worsening prospects. So, we thought that she was a little too wild, and not realistic, and we didn't choose Dana then. IT's 2023, a year passed and so did our ages, and we needed to sell our Apt more urgently. We then started rethinking of Dana Sapir, how confident she was, believing herself that she could sell our Apt! She had that undoubting confidence in herself, the passion and eagerness to work. Her high, wild price was to attract the sellers like us, rather than the buyers. As if she knows that the real price would be adjusted constantly between the demand and supply, the buyers and sellers, she never pushed or suggested us to change the price except that first price. Anyway, it worked well into our depressed minds, activating our spirits. Her team worked well together, magnifying and speeding our Apt's ad. So, when it was published first, hundreds of people seemed to view it, and 10-20 people wanted to see the Apt for each Open House. Such stormy responses, however, within 2-3 weeks, all became quiet again as if no one was around, and left the same emptiness, only to decide either waiting for more time, or make new changes, such as price-reductions... Even in such tiring moments at the outside of the Apt, waiting Dana's team to finish a showing to the customers, we, the old sellers, often recieved a few words from them, such as "Go home now, it's cold", and were able to palpate the team's care and companionship. We became closer and comfortable with each member, Dana, Yarden. and Liam. I felt most easy to ask Dana the meaning of unfamiliar legal terms, such as "IOLA Trust Fund." How clear Dana's explanation was to my ears, just like a good teacher's! Dana, too, asked us, at last, if they can remove some of our old oriental Rugs, against our original promise not to change the furnishings. Since we owned a few beautiful rugs, we used to place them all around, covering most of the old wood floors. How refreshing it was, the deep brown wood floors in-between the colorful rugs! She had certainly good eyes for appearance and arrangements! Still, in 3-4 months, we became totally exhausted, our minds began to get mixed up, and either wanting to give it up all, or live somewhere else until it's being sold. How tiring, disturbing, interrupting day and night these showings could be...! After a time-off in summer, we reopened the sale in early Sept,2023. This time, We and Dana agreed to lower down our Selling price where people would buy, and We'd move out from the Apt, making the team's scheduling easier, and keeping our health and peace better. Soon after we began packing, Dana called us one day, telling us that we got an offer. We were surprised at the word, as if we've never heard of it. And shortly after, a contract was signed without too much trouble. There was a brief mention of the buyers' plan to get a Mortgage, but it was "non-contingent," therefore they'll buy the Apt, whether they get approved or not. It won't matter to us, they said. And, the Closing date was set within 2 months. What a relief! It looked like a smooth path ahead to the Closing. We felt lucky to find one buyer just before our moving! We hadn't felt such happy, bright spirits for a long time! Our moving was very difficult, and the new place was rainy and cold every day. It's their rainy season. While waiting for the happy news of Closing anxiously, We got Dana's call, suddenly, and informed that the Closing had to be postponed. It was just 2 days before that expected Closing. Like a Thunder Bolt, it shook up our minds deeply. Dana tried to explain over the long-distance phone why and how, but we could not hear her well with her shocking message. Sitting in a cold, new Apt-room, we worried endlessly, not knowing what to do. And then, the buyers again failed their last day of Extension of Closing on Jan 15, 2024. Still Dana didn't say anything, nor suggest us to do anything, such as threatening the buyer's Escrow, or cancelling our Contract. What are they, Dana and our Lawyer, waiting for now against these unfaithful buyers? By then, all our closeness with Dana, turned into suspicion, doubt and fear. Is she helping the buyers, not us? What if we were cheated, and losing our Apt? This was a real emotional war! Should we continue to wait as they advise? Or, go back to New York city, cancelling our sale contract, before we lose it completely? When we think of our old, warm Apt in New York, it seems like we made a mistake to move to this cold, rainy Bellevue, WA so rashly. We even missed New York's bustling streets and noisy barking of our neighbor's dog. Our lawyer, too, seemed helpless to us. Do they think we are too old to fight? Out of anger, we bought air-tickets to go back to Manhattan. Our saga, thankfully, turned into a happy ending for all of us, a turn from our fearful break-down to a humbling experience. Our lawyer notified us just then for our real Closing date, Jan 30, the third Closing date. And, this one was thankfully carried out all well, and so gracefully, like a dream. Only reading our lawyer's expense list, a day before the Closing, we guessed what we missed from the factual information, and so imagining all the wrong things, and making ourselves worry to death by the buyers' repeated failures. Dana joined another broker for our Apt sale, whose client was the buyers with their Mortgage plan. We didn't know this broker's partnership with Dana clearly. With the mortgage, there were more delays, and so more flexibilities of their time-limits. Now, we believe, too, it was Dana's choice to join with this second broker, to help us sell our Apt quickly. If she tried a little longer, we are sure that she would find a full buyer herself, and she didn't have to reduce her fee by 50%! For, our Apt price was right by then, as well as its good location, and known good management of the building. Only, we were an old couple, whose health is a little shaky, and so Dana was actually concerned about us. Still, how could we doubt Dana so badly? Helping those buyers, instead of us? Couldn't we keep our trust a little longer for such a trustful person? Out of self-shame, even for a few days of our doubt, we are repeating our apology silently, and excusing ourselves with our physical tiredness, and difficulty in long distance dealing. Only, we would like to shout out now, our Thanks to Dana and her team, so that they can hear us. We'd say "Thank you, Dana, you made it possible to complete this floundering, emotional journey." And we reached a peaceful place, near to our son, his wife, and his children, as we dreamed. And the best thing we learned from this adventure is to trust our good friends with all of our hearts.
