Fall in Full Swing: What's Happening in NYC This October

  • October 14, 2026

October might be New York's best month. The air turns crisp, the light goes golden on the avenues and the calendar fills up so fast it's hard to choose. Here's what we're looking forward to over the rest of the month.

A Long Weekend for Food Lovers

The Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival returns October 15–18, with more than 50 events at the Seaport in Lower Manhattan. Highlights include the Blue Moon Burger Bash, a chef cook-off hosted by Rachael Ray and Bert Kreischer on the Pier 17 rooftop, and the brand-new New York After Dark, a late-night party from chef Kwame Onwuachi with a DJ set by Questlove. Tickets are sold event by event, and net proceeds benefit the Event Zero Foundation and the James Beard Foundation.

Two-for-One Theater

Off-Broadway Week runs through October 18, with two-for-one tickets to about two dozen shows, including The Play That Goes Wrong and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It's a great excuse for a weeknight out.

A Must-See at The Met

"Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous" opened October 4 at The Met Fifth Avenue and runs through January 31, 2027. More than 120 works trace the conversation between Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock from the 1930s onward, giving both artists equal billing. It's the first major New York show focused on either of them in two decades, so expect it to be one of the season's most talked-about exhibitions.

Halloween, New York Style

No city does Halloween quite like this one. The 53rd Village Halloween Parade steps off Saturday, October 31, at 7 p.m. and heads up Sixth Avenue. This year's theme is "Body & Soul," and the rules are simple:

  • Want to march? Come in costume and join the lineup near Canal Street and Sixth Avenue between 6:30 and 9 p.m.

  • Prefer to watch? Find a spot along Sixth Avenue early, since the best viewing areas in the Village fill up fast.

  • Getting there: Take the subway. Parking on parade night is nearly impossible.

Soak Up the Season

Between events, make time for the simple pleasures: a long walk through Central Park as the leaves begin to turn, a cider at an outdoor café while the weather holds, and those golden-hour views down the avenues that make fall in New York feel like a movie.
