The magic of the holiday season is alive and well on the Upper East Side! From twinkling lights to charming streets, this neighborhood transforms into a winter wonderland that captures the heart of New York City’s holiday spirit. Whether you’re a local or visiting for the season, there’s no better way to embrace the holidays than by taking a walk through our beloved streets.

Join us for a seasonal walk through the Upper East Side, where each stop offers a little piece of holiday magic. Here’s the route I recommend to fully experience the best of the neighborhood this time of year:

1. Start at Ralph’s Coffee – 72nd & Madison

Your festive journey begins at the iconic Ralph’s Coffee on the corner of 72nd Street and Madison Avenue. A perfect place to warm up with a rich, steaming cup of coffee or a hot chocolate, Ralph’s offers a cozy, welcoming atmosphere to start your stroll. Take a moment to savor your drink and soak in the holiday decor.

2. Wander Down Madison Avenue

From Ralph’s, take a leisurely stroll down Madison Avenue, where the streets are lined with twinkling lights, festive window displays, and luxury boutiques decked out for the season. The energy of Madison Avenue this time of year is absolutely electric.

3. Turn Right on East 60th Street and Head Toward Central Park

Next, turn right on East 60th Street and head towards the glistening green expanse of Central Park. As you make your way down the street, take in the festive sights—especially as you approach Fifth Avenue. Keep your eyes peeled for the sensational Dior storefront on your left, where the store’s holiday decorations are as glamorous as ever. Across the street, the iconic Plaza Hotel stands in all its holiday glory, a true New York holiday landmark.

4. Enter Central Park & Skate at Wollman Rink

Once you’ve crossed Fifth Avenue, step into the natural beauty of Central Park. A must-do during the holiday season is a stop at Wollman Rink, where you can glide across the ice and ring in 2024 in true New York style. Whether you're an experienced skater or just looking to take in the scene, this rink is a quintessential winter experience. (Click here for ticket information to skate at Wollman Rink.)

5. End at the Holiday Market at Columbus Circle

Finally, head southwest and finish your walk at the Holiday Market at Columbus Circle, one of the city’s most beloved seasonal markets. With over 150 vendors offering everything from unique gifts to delicious treats, this is the perfect place to do some last-minute shopping or simply enjoy the festive atmosphere. The market is alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of the holidays, making it an ideal spot to conclude your holiday tour.

Feeling the Magic of the Upper East Side

From the cozy warmth of Ralph’s Coffee to the twinkling lights of the Holiday Market, this walk through the Upper East Side is filled with moments of magic and seasonal cheer. It’s a wonderful way to embrace the festive spirit, create memories with loved ones, and take in the beauty of our neighborhood at its best.
